Bis(pentafluorophenylsulfanyl)ketene (1) may be prepared in good yield by the dehydration of the corresponding substituted acetic acid (C6F5S)2CHC(O)OH (4b) with P4O10 or by the reaction of C6F5SCl with Ag2CCO. The starting material 4b is prepared from CH3C(OCH2CH3)3 and C6F5SCl. Acidolysis of the C6F5S-substituted orthoesters 2 provided the ethyl esters CH3−n(SC6F5)nC(O)CH2CH3 (3) and acetic acids CH3−n(SC6F5)nC(O)OH
