    Photosensitive polybenzoxazine compositions include a photosensitive additive such as an o-diazoquinone and a polymer comprising a repeating unit represented by the following formula (I) wherein R 1 comprises an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic group, or combinations thereof, R 2 comprises an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic group, or combinations thereof, R 4 comprises a hydrophilic group, a hydrophilic group protected by an acid-cleavable group, a hydrophilic group protected by a base-cleavable group, a cross-linkable group, or combinations thereof, and i represents an integer of 1 or more. The photosensitive compositions may be formed by combining a precursor polymer with a photosensitive additive and a solvent, patterning the precursor polymer, and heating the precursor polymer at a thermal processing temperature in a range of from about 180° C. to about 300° C. to convert the precursor polymer into the final polymer.

    Photosensitive polyimide compositions include a photosensitive additive and a polymer comprising a repeating unit represented by the following formula (I): wherein R 1 comprises an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic group, or combinations thereof, R 2 comprises an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic group, or combinations thereof, R 3 represents hydrogen or an organic group comprising a hydrophilic group, an acid-cleavable group, a base-cleavable group, a cross-linkable group, or combinations thereof, and h represents an integer of 1 or more. The photosensitive compositions may be formed by combining a precursor polymer with a processing solvent, followed by a relatively low-temperature cyclization process in which the precursor polymer is converted to the final polymer. The resulting polyimide may be separated from the solution and purified. It may then be combined with a casting solvent and a photosensitive additive.

    A method for manufacturing a polarizing plate comprising a polarizing film and a transparent protective film provided on at least one surface of the polarizing film, the method comprising the steps of: subjecting at least a surface of the transparent protective film to be bonded to the polarizing film to an adhesion improving treatment; bringing water into contact with at least the surface subjected to the adhesion improving treatment; and laminating the transparent protective film on the polarizing film so that the surface subjected to the adhesion improving treatment and brought into contact with water is bonded to the polarizing film.
