Ultrasonic-assisted synthesis of copper(II) azo coordination polymers, new precursors for direct preparation of metalic copper nano-particles

Nanostructures of coordination polymers, (CuL1). 0.5DMF. 0.5EtOH. 1.5H(2)O (1), = [H2L1 = 5-(4-Carboxy phenyl azo) salicyilic acid], (Cu(L-2)(2)) (2), [HL2 = 5-(4-Carboxy phenyl azo) salicylaldehyde] have been synthesized by the reaction of H2L1 and HL2 with Cu(OAc)(2)center dot H2O by sonochemical process. CuO nanostructures were synthesized from calcination and thermal decomposition of compounds 1-2 nanostructures. Metalic copper nanoparticles were prepared by direct calcination of compounds 1-2 in surfactant at 180 degrees C. These nanostructures were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Thermal stability of compounds 1-2 was studied by thermal gravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA). (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
Synthesis and Characterization of Metabolites and Potential Impurities of Balsalazide Disodium, an Anti-Inflammatory Drug

Balsalazide disodium (Colazide (R)) is an oral prodrug of mesalamine (5-aminosalicylic acid) and possesses anti-inflammatory properties. During the process development for balsalazide disodium, we observed eight impurities, namely des--alanine balsalazide, balsalazide -alanine, balsalazide 3-isomer, decarboxy balsalazide, bis-azo salicylic acid, biphenyl-azo salicylic acid, bis-azo diacid, and bis-azo triacid. The present work describes the synthesis and characterization of these impurities.
