Chemical synthesis of 15β-hydroxytestosterone and its derivatives using a (4-methoxyphenyl)methyl protecting group

both yielded testosterone derivatives 17 beta-(dimethylthexylsiloxy)-15 beta-[(4-methoxyphenyl)methoxy]androst-4- en-3-one and 17 beta-(dimethylisopropylsiloxy)-15 beta-[(4-methoxyphenyl)- methoxy]androst-4-en-3-one. with activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are described. The compounds were synthesized using substituted thiopyridones, generated either by cyclization of functionalized precursors, or by direct alkylation of the enolate of 2-methyl substituted pyrones.
