Provided are dye-sensitized solar cells, comprising at least one substituted monopyridine ligand or polypyridine ligand, as a sensitizing-dye, and a cobalt complex, as a redox mediator, wherein the substituted monopyridine ligand and/or polypyridine ligand comprises at least one substituted aryl group. The present invention also concerns metal complex dyes therefor, and methods for making such dyes.
Two novel triarylamine dyes are reported, that are decorated with ethyladamantyl sidechains on the π-spacer (BSH-2), and on the donor (BSH-3).
