Efficient regioselective oxidation of the double CC bond of 4‐methylcoumarins with isolated dimethyldioxirane was performed, and related hydroxy and epoxy derivatives were obtained in good yields. All of obtained epoxides and most of hydroxy derivatives are novel compounds. The position of different electron‐donating groups attached at the aromatic part of molecule shows significant influence on kinetics

efficient regioselective oxidation of the CC double bond of 4‐methylcoumarins with isolated dimethyldioxirane was investigated using UV–vis spectroscopy methods. In the excess of dimethyldioxirane, the pyrone ring of a coumarin skeleton is selectively epoxidated and hydroxylated in neutral media, in high yields. An electroluminescent element comprising an organic electroluminescent material part and a fluorescent material part which absorbs the light emitted from said electroluminescent material, to emit a visible fluorescent light is disclosed.
According to said electroluminescent element, lights with a wide range of wavelength can be emitted, and three elementary colors of blue, green and red can be expressed by appropriate combinations of the organic EL element and the fluorescent material. Consequently, said element enables a display in full color.
