    Synthesis, structure and characterization of two Pb(II) phosphonates with layered or 3D structures

    Hydrothermal reactions of lead(II) acetate and N-cyclohexylimino-bis( methylenephosphonic acid) (C6H11N(CH2PO3H2) 2, H4L1) or N, N'-bis( phosphonomethyl)-6-aminocaproic acid (HO2C(CH2)(5)N(CH2PO3H2)(2), H5L (2)), respectively, resulted in two different new lead diphosphonates, namely, Pb2L1 center dot H2O (1) and Pb-2[HL2] (2). Their crystal structures have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure of compound 1 contains a 001 lead( II) diphosphonate hybrid layer formed by Pb(II) ions interconnected by L-1 anions. Such layers are further interlinked by van der Waals force into a supramolecular structure. In compound 2, the Pb(II) ions are interconnected by the -N(CH2PO3H)(CH2PO3) and -CO2 groups of the HL2 anions forming an organic-inorganic hybrid layer. These layers are further interlinked by the -( CH2)(5) groups of the HL2 anions into a 3D structure. (c) 2007 Elsevier B. V. All rights reserved.

    New functional monomers bearing a methacrylate, a bisphosphonate function and, for most, an internal carboxylate group, were prepared for incorporation into copolymers with adhesive or anticorrosive properties. Methanolysis of some trimethylsilyl bisphosphonate esters not only deprotects the desired bisphosphonate function but also regioselectively cleaves the alkyl ester function without affecting the methacrylate ester.

    The present invention is related to a new method for the synthesis of alpha-aminoalkylenephosphonic acid or its phosphonate esters comprising the steps of forming a reaction mixture by mixing a P-O-P anhydride moiety comprising compound, having one P-atom at the oxidation state (+111) and the other P-atom at the oxidation state (+111) or (+V), an aminoalkanecarboxylic acid and an acid catalyst, wherein said reaction mixture comprises an equivalent ratio of alpha-aminoalkylene carboxylic acid to P-O-P anhydride moieties of at least 0.2, and recovering the resulting alpha-aminoalkylene phosphonic acid compound or an ester thereof from the reaction mixture.

    A method for the manufacture of aminoalkylene phosphonic acids broadly is disclosed. In the essence, an amine corresponding to a specific formula is reacted in aqueous medium with phosphorous acid and formaldehyde to thereby yield a medium insoluble reaction product. The insoluble product formed i.e. the aminoalkylene phosphonic acid can be separated, optionally washed, and recovered. This process yields high purity and selectivity reaction products. The excess phosphonic acid can be recycled into the processing sequence.

    New insoluble layered zirconium phosphate carboxyaminophosphonates (ZPs), with the general formula Zr2(PO4)H5[(O3PCH2)2N(CH2)nCOO]2·mH2O (n = 3, 4, and 5), have been prepared and characterized. The crystal structure for n = 3 and 4 samples was determined ab initio from X-ray powder diffraction data. The structure for n = 3 was monoclinic in space group C2/c with the following unit cell parameters:
