polycyclic indoline-annulated normal to medium-size rings through dearomatization of indole via a tandem 1,2-acyloxy migration/intramolecular [3 + 2] cycloaddition process is described. The pentacyclic skeleton of strychnine could be synthesized via this tandemcycloaddition and a further Mannich reaction. This approach would provide a novel strategy to the synthesis of strychons alkaloids.

The intermolecular dearomatizationreaction of indoles with allylic alcohols has been realized by a Ru-complex in the presence of catalytic amount of TsOH·H2O. The reaction proceeded mainly via a cascade sequence including allylicdearomatization/cyclization/allylic amination reaction, enabling the introduction of an allylic substituent at both the C-3 and N-1 positions of indoles.

A Variation of the Fischer Indolization Involving Condensation of Quinone Monoketals and Aliphatic Hydrazines
new twist: A one‐pot nitrous acid free, diazonium‐free, and transition‐metal‐free variation of the Fischer indole synthesis has been developed. Pd‐catalyzed intermolecular dearomative Heck reaction of indoles with aryl iodides is described. The challenges on both reactivity and regioselectivity are addressed by the judicious regulation of the geometric and electronic properties of the substrates. An array of indoline derivatives bearing C2‐quaternary center is obtained in good to excellent yields (up to 93%) with exclusive regioselectivity
