  2-Aryl-2-hydroxy-1-(1-imidazolyl)-alkanes and alkenes of the formula: where R is a straight or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl group of from 2 to 10 carbon atoms or a cycloalkylalkyl group of from 4 to 10 carbon atoms and R' and R2 are each hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are antifungal agents useful in the treatment of fungal infections in animals including humans. Processes for their preparation and pharmaceutical compositions are described.
