α-Lithiated (+)-(R)-para-tolyl vinyl sulfoxide reacts with α-selanyl-carbonyl compounds to give the corresponding β-hydroxy selenides. Subsequent Krief-Reich elimination affords enantiomerically pure mono-, di- and trisubstituted 2-sulfinylbuta-1,3-dienes.
