    A method efficiently and safely manufactures, on an industrial scale, a compound having an N,N-bis(2-hydroxy-3-chloropropyl)amino group. (1) an amine compound or a solution thereof, (2) epichlorohydrin or a solution thereof, and (3) an acidic compound or a solution thereof are continuously supplied to a flow reactor and reacted at a reaction temperature of 40 to 130° C. and a liquid space velocity of 0.2 to 10 h −1 so that a compound having an N,N-bis(2-hydroxy-3-chloropropyl)amino group is manufactured. The obtained compound having an N,N-bis(2-hydroxy-3-chloropropyl)amino group is dehydrochlorinated by reaction with an alkali so that a polyfunctional glycidylamine type epoxy compound is manufactured.

    Disclosed is a fiber-reinforced composite material that is high in heat resistance and strength while being low in the content of volatile matter that volatilizes during curing. Also disclosed are an epoxy resin composition for production thereof, and a prepreg produced from the epoxy resin composition. Specifically the invention provides an epoxy resin composition comprising: [A] an epoxy resin comprising two or more ring structures each consisting of four or more members, and at least one amine type or ether type glycidyl group directly connected to the ring structures, [B] a tri- or more-functional epoxy resin, and [C] a curing agent, and also provides a prepreg produced by impregnating reinforcing fiber with the epoxy resin composition and a fiber-reinforced composite material produced by curing the prepreg.

    Provided are: a fiber-reinforced composite material which is suppressed in morphology variation due to the molding conditions, while having excellent mode I interlaminar fracture toughness and excellent wet heat resistance; an epoxy resin composition for obtaining the fiber-reinforced composite material; and a prepreg which is obtained using the epoxy resin composition. An epoxy resin composition for fiber-reinforced composite materials, which contains at least the following constituent elements [A]-[F], and which is characterized by containing 5-25 parts by mass of constituent element [C] and 2-15 parts by mass of constituent element [E] per 100 parts by mass of the total epoxy resin blended therein. [A] A bifunctional amine type epoxy resin. [B] A tetrafunctional amine type epoxy resin. [C] A bisphenol F type epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent weight of 450-4,500. [D] An aromatic amine curing agent. [E] A block copolymer having a reactive group that can be reacted with as epoxy resin. [F] Thermoplastic resin particles that are insoluble in an epoxy resin.

    A prepreg includes; sizing agent-coated carbon fibers coated with a sizing agent; and a thermosetting resin composition impregnated into the sizing agent-coated carbon fibers. The sizing agent includes an aliphatic epoxy compound (A) and an aromatic compound (B) at least containing an aromatic epoxy compound (B1). The thermosetting resin composition includes a thermosetting resin (D) and a latent hardener (E), and optionally includes an additive (F) other than the thermosetting resin (D) and the latent hardener (E). The (a)/(b) ratio is within a predetermined range where (a) is the height of a component at a binding energy assigned to CHx, C—C, and C═C and (b) is the height of a component at a binding energy assigned to C—O in a C 1s core spectrum of the surfaces of the sizing agent-coated carbon fibers analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.

    To provide a prepreg and a carbon fiber reinforced composite material that are excellent in adhesion between a matrix resin and carbon fibers and long-term storage stability and also excellent in microcrack resistance due to the increased toughness. The present invention provides a prepreg that includes; agent-coated carbon fibers coated with a sizing agent; and a thermosetting resin composition impregnated into the sizing agent-coated carbon fibers. The sizing agent includes an aliphatic epoxy compound (A) and an aromatic epoxy compound (B1). The sizing agent-coated carbon fibers are in a shape of woven fabric or braid. The thermosetting resin composition includes a thermosetting resin (D), a thermoplastic resin (F), and a latent hardener (G). The sizing agent-coated carbon fibers have an (a)/(b) ratio in a certain range where (a) is the height of a component at a binding energy assigned to CHx, C—C, and C═C and (b) is the height of a component at a binding energy assigned to C—O in a C 1s core spectrum of the surfaces of the sizing agent-coated carbon fibers analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
