Complexes of phosphoruspentachloride with 4-dimethylaminopyridine and N-methylimidazole were synthesized. The molecular structure of the phosphoruspentachloride complex with N-methylimidazole was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the cationic part of the complex, the phosphorus atom possesses four PCl bonds within the range 2.109–2.148 A and two cis-P–N bonds (1.811 and 1.832 A)

High effectiveness of new condensing agents on the basis of complexes of silicon and phosphorus chlorides with nitrogen-containing bases in the synthesis of amides from carboxylic acids and amines and also in heterocyclization is shown. Factors affecting the readiness of formation of the amide bond and the yields of the final products are established.

The intramolecularoxidative C–O coupling of N-(4-alkoxy-phenyl) and N-(4-acetamido-phenyl) benzamides was achieved under metal-free conditions by using phenyliodine bis(trifluoroacetate) as oxidant and TMSOTf as catalyst. The reactions afford benzoxazole products in high yields.
