  3-Thienyl-acetate derivatives of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or an aralkyl radical, R.sub.2 represents hydrogen or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, when they are taken together to form a cyclic group with the carbon atom to which they are attached, represent a polymethylene radical having from 2 to 5 carbon atoms, are prepared from a mixture consituted by a compound of the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.3 has the meaning given above and an organic halide of the formula: R.sub.4 X wherein X represents fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine and R.sub.4 represents an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl radical or --CH.sub.2 (CH.sub.2).sub.n X in which n is an integer in the range of from 1 to 4 inclusive and X has the meaning given above, which mixture is added to an alkali metal hydride in dimethylformamide, at a temperature between -20.degree. C. and -5.degree. C., and allowed to react, in one step, at a temperature between -20.degree. C. and -5.degree. C. The 3-thienyl-acetate derivatives of formula I are useful as intermediate products for preparing pharmacologically active compounds.
