    An improved process for the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride in the presence of a radical initiator and at least two suspension stabilizers is disclosed. The improvement comprises performing the polymerization in the presence of at least one primary stabilizer selected from the group consisting of water-soluble partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl acetates and methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose and at least one secondary stabilizer selected from the group consisting of N-alkyl gluconamides wherein the alkyl group contains from about 16 to about 20 carbon atoms.

    The invention relates to the suspension (co)polymerization of vinyl chloride in the presence of a radical initiator and at least a primary and a secondary suspension stabilizer. The present primary stabilizer must be selected from the group consisting of water-soluble, partly hydrolysed polyvinyl acetates and methylhydroxypropyl cellulose. The secondary stabilizer is an N-alkyl gluconamide, preferably N-octadecyl gluconamide. In their solid state these stabilizers can be satisfatorily handled and their use leads to (co)polymers having few fish eyes and high plasticizer absorption.

    A rubber composition comprises a polyether-based polymer as a rubber component (a), a crosslinking agent (b), m-phenylenedimaleimide (c), and an antioxidant (d). It is preferable that the polyether-based polymer includes a constituent unit including at least two units selected from ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, epichlorohydrin, or allyl glycidyl ether. It is more preferable that the antioxidant (d) is at least one selected from a benzimidazole-based antioxidant, a nickel salt of a dialkyldithiocarbamic acid, an amine-based antioxidant, a phenol-based antioxidant, a thiourea-based antioxidant, an organic thio acid, or a phosphorous acid.
