Synthesis, photophysics, ion-binding studies, and structural characterization of organometallic rhenium(I) crown complexes

A series of Re(I) complexes of [Re(L)(CO)(3)Cl] (1, L = L(1) = N-(2-pyridinylmethylene)-2,3,5,6,8,9,11,-12-octahydro-1,4,7,10,13-benzopentaoxacyclononadecan-16-ylamine; 2, L = L(2) = N-(2-pyridinylmethylene)-phenylamine) and [Re(phen)(CO)(3)(L')](+) (3, L' = L(3) = 1-(4-pyridinylformyl)aza-15-crown-5; 4, L' = L(4) = 4-(N,N-diethylformamido)pyridine) have been synthesized and their photophysical and cation binding properties studied. The X-ray crystal structure of 3 has also been determined.
