Diaryl-substituted trifluoromethyl-1,2,3-triazoles have been synthesized from aromatic azides and various substituted 1-aryl-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-propynes. The spectroscopic characteristics of the products and the regioselectivity of the reaction are discussed. An improved method for the synthesis of 1-aryl-3,3,3-trifluoro-1-propynes from 1-aryl-2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluro-1-propenes is presented.
A copper-catalyzed cyclization reaction of trifluoromethyl-containing ortho-halo-β-chlorostyrenes with ketones has been developed. Using a combination of copper(I) bromide, 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-dione and sodium tert-butoxide, a variety of 4-trifluoromethylbenzoxepines was prepared in moderate to good yields by the tandem α-alkenylation of ketones with subsequent O-arylation.
