This invention provides a piperidine compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or trihalomethyl, R.sup.2 is hydrogen or protected carboxy, R.sup.3 is heterocyclic group or aryl which may be halogen substituted, and X is --S--, ##STR2## --O--, --NH-- or lower alkylene which may be hydroxy substituted, and pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, These compounds possess hypotensive activity and are useful as anti-hypertensive agents. The invention further relates to processes for the preparation of these compounds and pharmaceutical compositions comprising compounds of the above formula.
The invention relates to the use of carboxyamine compounds and salts thereof in the treatment of HDAC dependent diseases and for the manufacture of pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of said diseases.

The present invention relates to certain substituted aryl and heteroaryl derivatives as shown in Formula (Ia) that are modulators of metabolism. Accordingly, compounds of the present invention are useful in the prophylaxis or treatment of metabolic disorders and complications thereof, such as, diabetes and obesity.
