An expeditious synthesis of new cryptands derived from N,C-pyrazolylpyridine and their full characterization is reported. Emission lifetimes of the europium and terbium cryptates were in the range of milliseconds and terbium quantum yield was high. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
