Reusable Co-nanoparticles for general and selective <i>N</i>-alkylation of amines and ammonia with alcohols

A general cobalt-catalyzed N-alkylation of amines with alcohols by borrowing hydrogen methodology to prepare different kinds of amines is reported. The optimal catalyst for this transformation is prepared by pyrolysis of a specific templated material, which is generated in situ by mixing cobalt salts, nitrogen ligands and colloidal silica, and subsequent removal of silica. Applying this novel Co-nanoparticle-based
were synthesized from 2‐aminobenzyl alcohols and secondaryalcohols. The effectiveness of this protocol was further extended by successfully synthesizing 2‐alkylaminoquinolines in a one‐pot fashion from amino alcohol, aliphatic nitriles, and alcohols. Gram scale synthesis of various compounds was also investigated to demonstrate the synthetic applicability of this methodology.

Nanocatalytic Amination: Herein, a reusable heterogeneous N-doped graphene-based manganesenanocatalyst (Mn@NrGO) for selective N-alkylation of amines with alcohols is described. The heterogeneous nature of the catalyst made it easy to separate for long-term performance, and the recycling study revealed that the catalyst was robust and retained its activity after several recycling experiments.

Ligand enabled Earth-abundant manganese catalyzedN-alkylation of amines with alcohols via a hydrogen auto-transfer strategy is reported. The choice of the ligand plays a significant role in the alcohol reactivity (aliphatic or aromatic) toward N-alkylation reactions.
