β-dimethylglycidate by aminolysis with benzylamine, followed by hydrogenolysis. N-Benzoyl-DL-β-hydroxyvaline was resolved by use of (−)-α-methylbenzylamine to yield (−)-N-benzoyl-β-hydroxyvaline.
