StachysteroneC was synthesized from 20-hydroxyecdysone (20-ECD). Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation of this rare ecdysteroid using osmium tetroxide and a chiral ligand afforded 24-epi-abutasterone, another rare ecdysteroid, and its C-24 epimer, abutasterone.
