    The compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 individually is hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower alkenyl or together signify straight-chain alkylene with 2 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sup.3 is hydrogen, halogen or lower alkyl, Q is alkylene with 4 to 11 carbon atoms and at least 4 carbon atoms between the two free valencies or alkenylene with 4 to 11 carbon atoms and at least 4 carbon atoms between the two free valencies and each of Y and Y' individually is a direct bond or the group --CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, --CH.dbd.CH-- or --C.tbd.C--, the group R.sup.1 R.sup.2 N--Q--O-- is attached to the 3- or 4 -position of ring A and the symbol R designates that the ring to which it is attached is unsubstituted or is substituted with at least one substitutent selected from the group consisting of halogen, trifluoromethyl, cyano, nitro, lower alkyl and lower alkoxy, and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts can be used for the control or prevention of fungal infections, especially of topical or systemic infections which are caused by pathogenic fungi, and for the manufacture of antifungally-active medicaments. The compounds of formula I have not only a pronounced antifungal activity, but they also exhibit synergistic effects in combination with other known antifungally-active substances which inhibit sterol biosynthesis such as ketoconazole and terbinafine.

    This invention provides an electrode electrolyte for a solid polymer-type fuel cell, in which a cost problem and a problem related to recovery of catalyst metals are solved, having excellent proton conductivity, dimensional stability and heat resistance. An electrode electrolyte for a solid polymer electrolyte-type fuel cell contains a polymer, which has a polyphenylene structure as a main chain and both a sulfonic acid group and a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group as a side chain. A side chain having the nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group has a structure represented by the following general formula (D). (In formula, Z represents at least one kind of structures selected from a group consisting of a direct bond, —O— and —S—, Y represents at least one kind of structures selected from a group consisting of —CO—, —SO 2 —, —SO—, —CONH—, —COO—, —(CF 2 ) 1 — (1 is an integer of 1 to 10) and —C(CF 3 ) 2 — and R 20 represents a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group. q represents an integer of 1 to 5 and p represents an integer of 0 to 4.) The above nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group is at least one kind of group derived from a compound selected from the group consisting of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds including pyrrole, thiazole, isothiazole, oxazole, isoxazole, pyridine, imidazole, imidazoline, pyrazole, 1,3,5-triazine, pyrimidine, pyridazine, pyrazine, indole, quinoline, isoquinoline, purine, benzimidazole, benzoxazole, benzothiazole, tetrazole, tetrazine, triazole, carbazole, acridine, quinoxaline and quinazoline and derivatives thereof.

    A membrane-electrode assembly for solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells, in which a sulfonic acid is an ion exchange group, and the heat resistance is superior, is provided. The membrane-electrode assembly for solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells contains a polymer including a principal chain that forms polyphenylene structure, a branched chain having a sulfonic acid group, and a branched chain having a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group. It is preferred that a branched chain having a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group is a structure expressed by the general formula (D) below.

    A membrane-electrode assembly for a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell is provided that uses a proton conductive membrane having high proton conductivity and also superior heat resistance and chemical durability. A membrane-electrode assembly for a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell is provided with an anode on one side of a proton conductive membrane and a cathode on another side thereof, and the proton conductive membrane is a sulfonated polyarylene containing a structure expressed by the general formula (1) below: —R s —Z—R h (1) In the formula (1), Z represents at least one structure selected from the group consisting of —CO—, —SO 2 —, and —SO—; R s represents a direct bond or any divalent organic group; and R h represents a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group.
