MOM-protected alpha-hydroxytrimethylstannanes do not undergo tin-lithium exchange cleanly as their tributyl-counterparts do. Other protecting groups (e.g. N,N-diethylcarbamate) allow for clean transmetalation to occur presumably due to the formation of a more stable alpha-alkoxyorganolithium species.
