Bis(2,2'-biphenylylene)tellurane 1 reacted with an equivalent of sulfuryl chloride to give a new spirooxytellurane 2 having SO3 unit at the apical site as a stable colorless crystal together with bis(2,2'-biphenylylene)dichloropertellurane 3. The structure of spirooxytellurane 2 was determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis, revealing that it has a distorted trigonal bipyramidal (TBP) bonding geometry.
