    Compositions are disclosed which are useful in coating and ink applications. Such compositions comprise a copolymer of at least one vinyl ester monomer and at least one vinyl functional acid-containing monomer in which the vinyl group is separated by at least two atoms from the acid group, the copolymer more preferably having a number average molecular weight of less than 10,000 and being substantially water soluble in the neutralized state. A particularly useful vinyl functional, carboxylic acid-containing monomer is mono vinyl adipate.

    The present invention improves the effectiveness of the oxygen scavenging composition and maintains an excellent balance in the color properties of the polymer. The present invention relates to an improved oxygen scavenging PET based copolymer comprising from about 10 to about 120 ppm cobalt based on the PET polymer, and from about 15 to about 150 ppm zinc based on the PET polymer. The present invention also comprises a process for preparing a PET based oxygen scavenging copolymer, comprising the steps of: a) polymerizing monomers to produce a PET based polymer; b) adding Zn, Co, and an oxygen scavenging compound during said polymerizing step; c) copolymerizing said oxygen scavenging compound with said PET based polymer to form a copolymer; and optionally d) extruding said copolymer. The present invention also comprises an oxygen barrier container having one or more layers of a PET based oxygen scavenging copolymer having from about 10 to about 120 ppm Co based on said PET polymer, and from about 15 to about 150 ppm Zn based on the PET polymer; and an oxygen scavenging compound wherein said Co and said Zn are catalysts for said oxygen scavenging compound.

    Provided is an ultrafine polyester fiber which is useful as a constituent material for a cloth for a stent graft or other medical device that is to be implanted in the body and which can simultaneously solve both a clinical need (diameter reduction) and a clinical challenge (integration of a stent with a stent graft). An ultrafine polyester fiber which has a polyethylene terephthalate content of 98 wt% or more, characterized by: having (1) a reduced viscosity (ηsp/c) of 0.80 dl/g or higher and (2) a total fineness of 7 to 120 dtex and a single-fiber fineness of 0.5 dtex or less; and exhibiting (3) a maximum thermal shrinkage stress of 0.05 cN/dtex or more in a temperature range of 80 to 200°C or (4) a degree of crystallinity of 35% or more in a region spreading from the surface of the fiber to a depth of 0.1 µm.

    The invention is a composition that can prevent formation in, or scavenge undesirable organic materials from, a polymer matrix. The composition contains cyclodextrin and particles of activated carbon. The composition can scavenge thermal decomposition products that can be produced during melt processing of a polymer, contaminants inherent in a polymer, or other types of impurities from a polymer matrix that otherwise may elute into the air, a water supply, or an ingestible material such as a food, a drug, or a beverage. Other aspects of the invention are blends of the composition with polymeric materials, methods of making blends, articles containing the composition, and methods of making articles containing the composition.
