Direct radical oxyphosphorylation of styrenes with diarylphosphine oxides and dialkylphosphites mediated by Mn(OAc)3 is described. The solvent played a key role in this selective difunctionalization reaction.

A protocol of Mn(OAc)(3)-mediated alpha,beta-hydroxy-phosphorylation of alkenes with phosphorus-centered radicals generated from diphenylphosphine oxide is described. A combination of steric and electronic factors played an important role in this reaction. The reactions of styrenes bearing ortho-substituent gave the selective beta-hydroxyphosphine oxide products. Direct Radical Acetoxyphosphorylation of Styrenes Mediated by Manganese(III)
Direct radical acetoxyphosphorylation of styrenes mediated by Mn(OAc)(3) with diphenylphosphine oxide and dialkyl phosphites was described, and a new type of difunctionalization of alkenes was achieved.
