[reaction: see text] A metalative 5-endo-dig cyclization reaction of 2-ynylphenoles or anilines effected by BuLi and ZnCl(2) produces 3-zinciobenzoheteroles in excellent yield. These intermediates have been transmetalated to the corresponding cuprates and allowed to react with electrophiles to produce a variety of 2,3-disubstituted benzofurans and indoles.

The influences of several parameters including the substrate features, oxidant, reaction conditions, and catalyst on the reaction outcome were explored. A plausible mechanism is provided for the unusual silver-catalyzed oxidative cyclization reactions of 2-alkynylanilines to anthranils.

We describe an efficient catalyst‐ and metal‐free aminoboration of alkynes to 3‐borylated indoles using one of the least expensive boron sources, BCl3. The major dichloro(indolyl)borane products can be used for the in situ construction of useful 3‐Bpin indoles. This simple and mild method provides a novel and efficient approach for the synthesis of various 3‐borylated indoles with high regioselectivity
