Anodic oxidation of Co, Ni and Cu in an anhydrous acetone solution of pyridine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4,6-dimethyl-5-(phenylazo) (HL1) and its derivatives, pyridine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4,6-dimethyl-5-(4-chlorophenylazo) (HL2), pyridine-2- (1H)-thione-3-cyano-4,6-dimethyl-5-(4-methylphenylazo) (HL3) pyridine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4,6-dimethyl-5-(4-bromophenylazo)(HL4), pyridine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4-methyl-6-phenyl-5- (4-phenylazo)(HL5), pyridine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4, 6-dimethyl-4-methyl-6-phenyl-5-(4-chlorophenylazo) (HL6) and (HL6) and pyridine-2-(1H)-thione-3-cyano-4-methyl-6-phenylazo) (HL7) yields complexes of the compositions M(L)(2), [M(L)(2). (H2O)(2)] and M(L)(2).(acetone)(2), where M = Co(II), Ni(II) or Cu(II) and L is the ligand. Chemical and thermal analyses as well as infrared and electronic spectral data are presented to confirm the formulation of the complexes. The spectral data show that the ligands are coordinated to the metal via the thioenol sulfur atom and the nitrogen atom of cyano groups.
