The use of phenylsilane as a mild coupling reagent for amidation reactions is reported. Applicability to both solution- and solid-phase chemistry has been demonstrated for a variety of amines and carboxylic acids.

Reaction of N-(4-pyridylmethyl)benzamide N-oxides with aceticanhydride yielded dimerization compounds. This dimerization occurs at the atom attached to the pyridine ring. These compounds so obtained were evaluated for analgesic and antiinflammatory activity.
