Abstract bis-C(cage)-substituted 1,2-bis(aminomethyl)-1,2-dicarba-closo-dedocaborane hydrochloride was obtained from the reaction of 1,2-bis(phthalimidomethyl)-1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane with sodium borohydride, followed by acid hydrolysis with glacial acetic acid. A novel o-carborane derivative incorporating 4-amino-phthalimide as fluorophore group 1,2-bis(4-amino-phthalimidomethyl)-1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane has been successfully synthesized and characterized. The new compound is found to emit green light. Incorporation of o-carborane cluster into the fluorophore leads to a small bathochromic shift of lambda(abs) and lambda(em) and a slight enhancement of quantum yield. The cross-linked polymer bearing o-carborane cage is prepared based on heat-curing reaction of the o-carborane appended 4-amino-phthalimide with epoxy resin. The polymer exhibits yellow-green emission property and excellent thermal stability. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
