    The ferrocenyl 1,2-diketone [(C5H5)Fe(C5H4)COCOPh] when condensed with aromatic 1,2-diamines forms a range of ferrocenyl-substituted quinoxalines: when the diamine is unsymmetrically substituted the quinoxaline is formed as a mixture of two regio-isomers, which can in some cases be separated by careful chromatography. Electrochemical studies show that these present ferrocenylquinoxalines undergo the expected reversible one-electron oxidation centred on the ferrocenyl moiety and a two-electron reduction process centred on the quinoxalyl fragment, which is accompanied by chemical complications. The oxidation of the ferrocenyl group occurs at potentials slightly higher than that of unsubstituted ferrocene (by about 100-150 mV, depending on the substituents) indicating that the quinoxalyl substituent is slightly electron-withdrawing with respect to ferrocene.     Process for the preparation of aromatic and heteroaromatic carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid esters and carboxamides by the reaction of aromatic or heteroaromatic halides R—X n , in which n=integer from 1 to 6, R=substituted or unsubstituted and aromatic or heteroaromatic radical and X=chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, with carbon monoxide and water, ammonia, alcohols or amines in the presence of bases and zero-valent or divalent palladium compounds and bidentate diphosphanes or complexes of zero-valent or divalent palladium with bidentate diphosphanes, in which use is made of bidentate diphosphanes (R 1 —)(R 2 —)P—Y—P(—R 3 )(—R 4 ) in which R 1 to R 4 =unsubstituted aryl radicals or aryl radicals substituted with at least one radical exhibiting a positive resonance effect or a positive inductive effect, or unsubstituted or substituted cycloalkyl radicals, and Y=hydrocarbon group with a total of 2 to 20 carbon atoms, in which at least one of the carbon atoms carries only one or no hydrogen atom as substituent; except for the reaction of 4-bromo-3-difluoromethyl-1-methylpyrazole with 2-(3,4,5-trifluorophenyl)aniline and carbon monoxide to give N-[2-(3,4,5-trifluorophenyl)phenyl]-3-difluoromethyl-1-methylpyrazole-4-carboxamide.

    p-Phenylenediamines and derivatives thereof connected by polyoxaalkyl bridges to form dimers are highly suitable developer substances in oxidation hair colors. The bridged p-phenylenediamines are represented by the general formula (I) 1 in which (B) is a polyoxaalkyl bridge having at least two oxygen atoms; X and Y independently of one another are H, Cl, F or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl, aminoalkyl, alkoxy, C 2 -C 4 dihydroxyalkyl, C 1 -C 4 monohydroxyalkyl or C 2 -C 4 alkenyl group; and R1, R2, R3, and R4 independently of one another are H or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 1 -C 4 monohydroxyalkyl or C 2 -C 4 dihydroxyalkyl group, and acid addition salts derived therefrom. A process for the preparation and a method of use of the bridged p-phenylenediamines of formula (I) are also disclosed.
