reduction of dithiocarbonates or thiocarbonates by n-Bu3SnH–Et3B easily gives the corresponding hydrocarbons. The intermediate alkoxythiocarbonyl radical equivalents are trapped by properly located carbon–carbon multiple bonds. The dithiocarbonates derived from either homopropargylic or homoallylic alcohols produce tetrahydrofuranones upon treatment with n-Bu3SnH–Et3B. Application of this new method

Partial reduction of dithioacetals to the corresponding sulfides was effected by samarium iodide in the presence of either t-BuOH or acetic acid in benzene-HMPA. An α-sulfenyl anion was shown to be involved.
Inexpensive lubricating oil antioxidants having a solubilizing group which comprises alkyl and cycloalkyl-substituted aromatics and a reducing thiophenyl group, which are useful motor oil additives. Method of reducing coking tendencies of lubricating oils by incorporating the substituted aromatic antioxidants.
A thermoplastic resinous composition with satisfactory mechanical properties and thermal properties and an enhanced molding workability comprises a polyarylenesulfide (PPS) resin, a polyphenyleneether (PPE) resin, an epoxy group-containing vinyl compound copolymer, which is a copolymerization product of a vinyl compound and an ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic glycidyl compound, and optionally, a carboxylic anhydride group-containing styrene or olefin polymer or an epoxy resin-curing agent, which PPS resin may be preliminarily modified with the epoxy group-containing vinyl compound copolymer.
The present invention provides for lubricating oil compositions, and method of making same, comprising the synergistic combination of a synthetic lube base stock, a copper containing antioxidant and a deposit control enhancing amount of an oil soluble or oil dispersible multiring aromatic compound, typically 2, 3 and 4 ring multiring aromatics. Typically these are added in a minor amount of less than 25 wt%. The invention has utility in lube applications.
