    Thermosetting epoxy resin compositions, comprising a polyfunctional epoxy resins, dianhydride or diamine hardeners, and amide, imide, or amideimide oligomers,and their uses in making adhesives, or thermoset composites that exhibit a critical stress intensity factor (K1C) greater than 1.0 MPam½ while maintaining a wet Tg greater than about 120°C upon curing in the presence of inorganic or organic fibers, are described; the oligomers are terminated with amine, isocyanate or carboxylic acid derivative groups, have a number average moleculer weight from about 1000 to about 50,000 and a glass transition temperature of above about 150°C, while being soluble in the combination of the epoxy resin and the hardener at a temperature under about 150° C.

    Described are (1) terminally unsaturated oligomers having terminal amine groups or terminal carboxylic acid derivative groups and glass transition temperatures (Tg) above about 170°, in which the unsaturated moieties have two double bonds in conjugated relationship, and which are soluble in uncured multifunctional maleimides, and (2) thermosetting resins com­prising mixtures of the terminally unsaturated oligomers and the multifunctional maleimides. The cured resins have a fracture toughness, KIC of at least 1.0 MPam1/2 and glass transition temperatures of at least 200°C.

    A readily bondable polyester film excellent in antistatic performance, slipperiness, bondability, blocking resistance, water solubility, solvent resistance, chipping resistance, and so forth, and suitable as magnetic recording material, various photographic materials, wrapping material, electrical insulation material, general industrial materials, and so forth. This film is composed of a polyester base and, formed on at least one side thereof, a layer formed from a mixture mainly comprising a copolyester composition and oxidized wax and/or natural wax, which composition contains a polyoxyalkylene glycol component in an amount of 1 wt. % or above to less than 40 wt. %.

    Polymers and compounds including a diphenylmethylene or a 9H-fluorene moiety; and sunscreen compositions including a mixture of a photoactive compound and any one of the foregoing derivatives are disclosed herein. Also disclosed are methods for stabilizing a sunscreen composition by the addition of one or more of the foregoing derivatives, methods of filtering out ultra-violet light from a substrate by the use of one or more such derivatives; and methods for terminating a polymerization reaction by the addition of derivatives of diphenylmethylene and/or 9H-fluorene. Synergistic combinations of the polymer with (1) diesters or polyesters of a naphthalene dicarboxylic acid, or (2) oxybenzone enhance the photostability of sunscreen compositions containing a photodegradable sunscreen active compound, such as avobenzone.
