    By the action of acetic acid on 2-morpholinochromanes, a series of chroman-2-ols were obtained in which the hydroxyl group is easily substituted by a primary or secondary amine or benzyl carbamate fragments. In the case of hydrazines and hydrazides of carboxylic acids, the corresponding hydrazones are isolated.

    The invention relates to acid halide and/or acyllactam functional compounds, to polylactam block copolymers derived therefrom by lactam polymerization at a lactam group, and to the use of such block copolymers in polyamide mixtures. The compounds contain liquid crystalline compounds or compounds which combine with acyllactam to form a compound with liquid crystalline properties. The products of this invention are useful as accelerators in the preparation of nylon block copolymers, in particular block copolymers with improved stiffness. The block copolymers are useful in products requiring good tensile strength, chemical resistance and/or heat resistance, and are particularly useful in electrical engineering applications and in the aircraft industry.

    Disclosed is a process for preparing a colorant of the formula 1 wherein Y is a hydrogen atom or a bromine atom, n is an integer of 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, R 1 is an alkylene group or an arylalkylene group, R 2 is an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group, and R 4 is an alkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, or an alkylaryl group, can be prepared by a process which comprises (a) preparing a first reaction mixture by admixing (1) leucoquinizarin and, optionally, quinizarin, (2) an aminobenzene substituted with an alcohol group of the formula —R 1 —OH, (3) boric acid, and (4) an optional solvent, and heating the first reaction mixture to prepare an alcohol-substituted colorant of the formula 2 followed by (b) converting the colorant thus prepared to either (i) an ester-substituted colorant by reaction with an esterification compound which is either (A) an anhydride of the formula 3 or (B) an acid of the formula R 2 COOH in the presence of an optional esterification catalyst, or (ii) a urethane-substituted colorant by reaction with an isocyanate compound of the formula R 4 —N═C═O and (c) brominating the colorant thus prepared, wherein either conversion to ester or urethane can be performed before bromination or bromination can be performed before conversion to ester or urethane.

    The invention relates to an improved process for making monomelic triglycidyl compounds, wherein the triglycidyl compounds include N, O-triglycidyl compounds containing at least one primary aromatic amine and one phenolic functional group attached to the same or a different aromatic ring. The methods of the present invention result in the production of N, O-triglycidyl compounds, such as those of formula I and II. The improved process is energy efficient, environment friendly, and results in increased yields of product. The methods of the present invention can be performed in the absence of protic organic co-solvents during the reaction of an epihalohyrdrin with an aminophenol, such as compounds of fonnula III and IV, which provides an intermediate halohydiin compound. The methods of the present invention may also be performed in the absence of a phase transfer catalyst.
