    Described herein is a method for defoliating a crop plant to aid in harvesting the crop which comprises applying to the plant an effective amount of a composition comprising one or more of a 1,2,4-triazol-1-ylpropanoic acid or derivative thereof having the formula: 1 in admixture, with one or more adjuvant with an agriculturally suitable carrier, where X, Y, and R-R 5 are described. The method is particularly effective at low use rates as an aid for harvesting cotton. Especially effective is that compound wherein X is fluoro, Y is chloro, R is methyl, R 1 is difluoromethyl, R 2 is hydrogen, R 3 is chloro, R 4 is hydrogen, and R 5 is ethyl; the compound of which is carfentrazone ethyl, and the adjuvant is a crop oil concentrate.

  • In Situ Preparation, Structure, Photoluminescence and Theoretical Study of an Unusual Bismuth Complex

    A novel bismuth photoluminescent material, (N, N'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipy) 2 (Bi2Cl10)center dot 2H(2)O (1) (bipy = bipyridine), with the N, N'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipy(2+) moiety obtained in situ, has been synthesized under solvothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 is characterized by an isolated structure, consisting of N, N'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipy(2+) cations, Bi2Cl104- anions and lattice water molecules. Photoluminescence experiments with solid-state samples discover that compound 1 exhibits a strong emission in the green region. Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculation reveals that the essence of the photoluminescence of 1 can be assigned to the combination of the metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) (from the HOMO of the bismuth ion to the LUMO of the N, N'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipy(2+) moiety) and the ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (LLCT) (from the HOMO of the chloride ions to the LUMO of the N, N'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipy(2+) moiety).

    Homogeneous stable liquid agrochemical concentrate formulations which form stable dilutions with water comprises biologically efficacious oil, water, agrochemical dissolved in the water to form concentrated aqueous electrolyte, a stabilizing surfactant, based on non-ionic or non-ionic and anionic or amphoteric surfactant, comprising oil compatible, electrolyte tolerant surfactant and water soluble, electrolyte tolerant surfactant and optionally a polyol component, are useful as tank mix adjuvants. The formulations combine biologically efficacious oil, e.g. crop oil, with an electrolyte agrochemical, particularly water soluble non-selective herbicide such as glyphosate, or electrolyte nutrients particularly water soluble inorganic fertilizers providing nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium or sulphur.
