A photoreceptor for electrophotography comprises a photosensitive layer containing an effective amount of oxytitanium phthalocyanine crystal having strong peaks at 9.6°., 24.2° and 27.3° and weak and broad peaks at approximately 11.6°, 13.5°, 14.3° and 18.1° in Bragg angle 2θ±0.2° by CuKα characteristic X-ray diffraction, and an exothermic peak at 266°C in differential scanning calorimetry. The oxytitanium phthalocyanine crystal has a small grain size and a high stability and the photoreceptor has a high photosensitivity to light having a long wavelength.
