  The reaction of (chloromethylene)dimethylammonium chloride (generated in situ from oxalyl chloride and DMF) with α-substituted ketones in CH2Cl2, followed by workup with aqueous NaHCO3, gave β-keto aldehydes containing an α-quaternary centre (8-88% yield).

  Herein we present the development of asymmetric deacylative allylation of ketone enolates. The reaction directly couples readily available ketone pronucleophiles with allylic alcohols using facile retro-Claisen cleavage to form reactive intermediates in situ. The simplicity and robustness of the reaction conditions is demonstrated by the preparation of >6 g of an allylated tetralone from commercially available materials. Furthermore, use of nonracemic PHOX ligands allows intermolecular formation of quaternary stereocenters directly from allylic alcohols.

  Arylpalladium or aminopalladium species bearing a 2,2-difluorovinyl group undergo an unusual 5-endo alkene insertion followed by beta-fluorine elimination. These processes provide a facile access to ring-fluorinated five-membered carbocyclic and heterocyclic compounds starting from an o-(3,3-difluoroallyl)phenyl trifluoromethanesulfonate and 3,3-difluoroallyl ketone O-pentafluorobenzoyloximes.
