Three original approaches to the synthesis of N-alkyl-N′-phosphanylbenzimidazolium salts, which are precursors of the corresponding carbenes, were developed. New stableN-alkyl-N′-phosphanylbenzimidazol-2-ylidenes were prepared in good yields. X-ray analysis of a carbene was made and the chemical properties of the carbenes were studied. The reactions with O-, N-, and C-nucleophiles were found to proceed

Synthesis and deprotonation of N-phosphanylated[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyridinium triflates were investigated. Phosphanylation by t-Bu2PCl proceeds at N1 of starting triazolo-pyridines. According to density functional theory calculations, deprotonation of the formed salt gives abnormal carbenes, which decompose by opening of the triazole cycle. Treatment by chlorodiphenylphosphane leads to an equilibrium
Palladium(<scp>ii</scp>) complexes with chelating N-phosphanyl acyclic diaminocarbenes: synthesis, characterization and catalytic performance in Suzuki couplings
Complexes of palladium(II) with newly disclosed, N-phosphanyl acyclic diaminocarbene ligands are synthesized for the first time and structurally characterized. The ligands coordinate palladium(II) in a chelating fashion, yielding remarkably stable complexes which can be stored without special precautions in the solid state. Related palladium(II) complexes with an isomerized chelating ligand, formed
A method of preparing a compound (I) of general formula (R3—C)2P—L1—X—L2—P—(C—R3)2, in which R is independently a pendant, optionally substituted, organic group through which the group is linked to tertiary carbon atoms C; L1 and L2 are independently, a linking group selected from an optionally substituted lower alkylene chain connecting the respective phosphorous atom to the group X, and X is a bridging group comprising an optionally substituted aryl moiety to which the phosphorous atoms are linked on available adjacent carbon atoms; comprising: (i) reacting together a compound (II) of formula A—L1—X—L2—A, in which A is a halogen atom, with a metal M in a suitable solvent or form an intermediate compound (III) of formula: A—M—L1—X—L2—M—A; (ii) reacting said intermediate compound (III) with a compound (IV) of formula: (R3—C)2P—A1, wherein A1 is a halogen atom which may be the same as or different from A, to form said compound (I).
