Intramolecular diamination reactions are described which yield cyclic ureas as direct products of an oxidative alkene transformation in the presence of palladium acetate and iodosobenzenediacetate as terminal oxidant. The reaction is truly catalytic in metal catalyst and represents the proof of principle for this elusive type of alkene oxidation.

Highly Stereoselective Metal-Free Oxyaminations Using Chiral Hypervalent Iodine Reagents

The ring and I: Hypervalentiodine compounds avoid the issues of toxicity or complicated ligands of many transition‐metal‐based systems. A highly enantioselective oxyamination of alkenes with N‐sulfonyl ureas employing chiral, lactic acid‐based hypervalentiodinereagents gives a facile synthesis of enantiomerically pure 2‐arylproline derivatives (see scheme) for the first time.
A versatile synthesis of 1,4-benzodiazepine derivatives through the reaction of various 3-(trifluoromethanesulfonyloxy)benzynes with N-(p-toluenesulfonyl)imidazolidin-2-ones is reported. This reaction system provides a 1,4-benzodiazepine bearing a trifluoromethanesulfonyloxy group as a single regioisomer among the four possible regioisomers.
