Synthesis of racemic cis-1-alkyl- and 1-aryl-2-aminocyclopropanecarboxylic esters

The title cyclic beta-amino esters were synthesized stereo- and regioselectively. Starting from the corresponding 1-aryl- and 1-alkylcyclopropane-1,2-dicarboxylates, selective monosaponification and subsequent Curtius reaction leads to certain cis-1-alkyl-and 1-aryl-2-aminocyclopropanecarboxylic esters. These P-aminocyclopropanecarboxylate derivatives (beta-ACCs) can be seen as useful building blocks for beta-peptides. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
PhCH2 - CO2 - and CH2 = CH - CO2 - in a soluble chloromethylated polystyrene leads to polymersupported esters which were used for the preparation of cyclopropyl derivatives. For the first time at our knowledge, a reaction was performed between two funntionalized polymers. The polymer backbone effect on the reaction with one or two bound reagents is not large, and it depends on the temperature.

Several optically active substituted 3-oxabicyclo[3.1.0]hexan-2-ones and their thiocarbonyl analogues were synthesized, and their circular dichroism spectra are reported. It was found that the n-pi* Cotton effect sign is determined by the helicity of an inherently chiral chromophore formed by the lactone or thiolactone group and the cyclopropyl moiety. The pi-pi* Cotton effect of thiocarbonyl compounds shows opposite sign to that observed for the lowest energy transition. The crystal structures of two compounds were solved to establish their molecular geometries. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
