An effective approach toward conversion of phenols to their benzene sulfonate esters by using N-fluorobenzenesufonimide (NFSI) and catalyticpotassium fluoride is demonstrated. Mild reaction conditions, shorter reaction time, excellent yield and easy-to-handle reagents are the key features of the methodology. Mild reaction conditions have conferred wide substrate tolerability and sensitive substrates
A highly improved Pd-catalyzed cyanation of aryl chlorides to corresponding benzonitriles was demonstrated in aqueous media. Moreover, Pd-catalyzed cyanation of aryl tosylates and benzenesulfonates with K(4)[Fe(CN)(6)] was developed under the similar conditions, which extended application scope of the cyanation.
