Hybrid white LED lamps with high Ra (92) and efficiency (82 lm W−1) are reported. Using remote downconversion structure realizes 85% fluorescence remaining after 2870 h aging.
S‐annulated perylene tetraesters, in terms of their thermal, photophysical and electrochemical behavior is provided. The bay‐annulation of perylene tetraesters is a good option to modify the thermal and photophysicalproperties of perylene derivatives and it can provide a new avenue for the synthesis of several technologically important self‐assembling perylene derivatives.
Simple ester derivatives of polycyclic arenes offer access to light-emitting diodes of nearly any visible color by making use of the good charge-transport properties of the columnar liquid crystals of these derivatives. The picture shows the orange-red electroluminescence of a light-emitting diode containing the perylene 3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid ethyl ester (structure shown, R=Et). Through use of multiple layers of different esters light-emitting diodes with almost white luminescence can be obtained.

The molecular aggregations in liquid crystalline 3,4,9,10-tetra-(n-alkoxy-carbonyl)-perylenes (PTAC, n = 4, 8, 12), which were prepared via an innovative route of a simple phase transfer catalysis method, were investigated through UV/Vis absorption, XRD, DSC, and polarization microscopy. Some interesting aggregate behaviors caused by the length of attached alkyl chains were observed. It was found that it was easier for PTAC derivatives with shorter alkyl chain to form crystal films and liquid crystals. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
