An yttria-zirconia based strong Lewis acid efficiently catalyses the transesterification of β-keto esters under environmentally safe, heterogeneous reaction conditions with high selectivity and in good to excellent yields.
The invention relates to an aqueous polymer dispersion wherein the dispersed polymer U comprises Michael donor groups, and is an externally emulsified polymer UE or a self-emulsifying polymer US, wherein the Michael donor groups are acidic C-H groups from activated methylene and/or methine groups, to a mixture thereof with compounds having Michael acceptor groups which are activated olefinically unsaturated groups, activated by an electron-withdrawing group, and a catalyst to promote the Michael reaction, to a paint binder prepared from the mixture and the catalyst, and to coating compositions comprising the paint binder and appropriate additives.

Polymerizable compositions comprising a radically polymerizable resin can be polymerized in the absence of a peroxide initiator and other undesirable components. The polymerizable compositions and methods employ a manganese- or iron-containing salt or organic complex and a 1,3-dioxo compound with one or more other components. The polymerizable compositions have better storage stability and reduced gel time-drift.
