and enaminones can be obtained under erbium(III) triflate catalysis. The reaction mechanism is that typical of imine synthesis. The role of the catalyst is demonstrated for the synthesis of aromatic imines. In contrast to CeCl 3 /NaI addition to unsaturated aldehydes, which results in Michael addition, no Michael adduct was observed under erbium(III) triflate catalysis.

Structures of dichloromanganese(IV) complexes with bidentate and tetradentate Schiff base ligands
The dichloromanganese(IV) complexes with various bidentate and tetradentate Schiff base ligands, Mn-IV(L'),Cl-2 and Mn-IV(L)Cl-2 have been obtained by the reactions of chloromanganese(III) complexes, Mn-III(L')(2)Cl and Mn-III(L)Cl with hydrogen chloride or by the reactions of acetatomanganese(III) complexes, Mn-III(L')(2)OAc, with chlorine as deep green crystals, where L'H denotes bidentate Schiff base ligands N-R-salH (N-alkyl-salicylideneamine) and R can be n-C3H7, n-C6H13, n-C8H17, or n-C12H25, and LH, denotes tetradentate Schiff base ligands X-salenH, (N,N'-disubstituted-salicylideneethylenediamine) or X-salpnH(2) (N,N'-disubstituted salicylidenepropanediamine) and X can be H and 5-Br. X-ray structure analysis of the present dichloromanganese(IV) complexes has revealed that two chloride ions coordinate to the central manganese ion in a trans-form. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. Synthesis, characterization and anticancer properties of (salicylaldiminato)platinum(II) complexes

Twelve new (salicylaldiminato) platinum(II) complexes have been prepared, characterized and examined for their in vitro cytotoxic properties against three human glioma cell lines LN18, LN405 and Hs683. Initial biotesting was done on platinum complexes 1-6, which display a wide range of physicochemical properties. Whereas introduction of aromatic rings in the complexes did not seem to have a significant impact on bioactivities, the length of the aliphatic group positively correlated with cytotoxicity in all cell lines. Complexes 2 and 3 were found to be particularly potent against LN18 cells as demonstrated by stronger cell growth inhibition when compared to cisplatin. These initial findings led us to develop an additional series of mono (salicylaldiminato) platinum(II) complexes 7-12, which were subjected to additional cytotoxicity studies but were less cytotoxic compared to the bis Schiff base complexes. These organometallic compounds could serve as interesting starting points for the development of novel therapeutic strategies to treat brain tumors. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
