    A composition prepared by containing or blending a physiologically active non-peptide substance and a biodegradable polymer having two or more carboxylic groups at its end or a salt thereof features: (1) larger content of the physiologically active non-peptide substance can be contained, as well as release of the same can be controlled or accelerated, whereby secure pharmaceutical effect is achieved; (2) when the physiologically active non-peptide substance causes subcutaneous stimulation, an activity of canceling the stimulation by strongly acidic group at its end is expected; and (3) high glass transition point and high stability.

    The syntheses of 2:1-adducts from carbon tetrachloride with non-conjugated dienes were realised by redox catalysis. However, in some cases, predominant 1:1-adduct formation was observed, as well as degradation and polymerisation reactions.

    This invention has the objective of providing polymers having high oxygen permeability and high hydrophobicity and ophthalmic lenses comprising said polymers, and, as a result, provides novel monomers represented by general formula (a) below: 1 wherein, in formula (a), A 1 to A 9 indicate groups selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl groups, aralkyl groups, aryl groups and alkyl groups having 1 to 9 carbon atoms substituted with at least one group selected from epoxy groups, hydroxyl groups and amino groups, with at least one of A 1 to A 9 indicating said alkyl group of 1 to 9 carbon atoms substituted with at least one group selected from epoxy groups, hydroxyl groups and amino groups; a, b and c indicate 0 or 1; X indicates a polymerizable group having a carbon-carbon unsaturated bond; Z indicates groups selected from N—Y, O and S; Y indicates H, an alkyl group or an aryl group; and L indicates a divalent group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms.
