Such encapsulates comprise a core comprising a perfume and a shell that encapsulates said core, such encapsulates may optionally comprise a parametric balancing agent, such shell comprising one or more azobenzene moieties.

Aldimines obtained from 2-alkenals are condensed with triethyl phosphite in ethanol in the presence of formic acid to give diethyl iminoalkylphosphonates; these are readily converted into diethyl formylalkylphosphonates in acidic medium.

electron-poor substituents on the aryl group of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes can be tolerated, affording the corresponding products in excellent yields with high TOF values. High selectivity and yields were also observed for α,β-unsaturated aldehydes with aliphatic substituents. Our mechanistic investigations indicate that the pH value is critical to the chemoselectivity.

The formation of the [4 + 3] cycloadducts likely proceeds through the cycloaddition of a gold(I) carbenoid/gold-stabilized allyl cation intermediate with cyclopentadiene arising from Rautenstrauch rearrangement.
