Four novel cinnamoylphloroglucinol dimers were discovered from C. operculatus. Biomimetic syntheses of these and two known dimers were developed through a strategy in which the activation of stable biogenetic building blocks was a crucial step and key features included a unique cascade reaction and a rare inverse-electron-demand Diels–Alder reaction.
