carboxy-4°-PCP (V) and to acetoxy-4°-PCP (VIII). Esterification of V gave carbomethoxy-4°-PCP (VI). VIII was hydrolized to hydroxy-4°-PCP (IX). Nitration of II with N2O5, gave nitro-4°-PCP (X) in good yield. Fuming nitric acid in acetic acid-acetic anhydride as a nitration reagent gave VIII together with X. Further acetylation of IV gave diacetylated derivatives (VII).
