To date, the N‐alkylation of amides with alcohols has not been studied with non‐noble metal base heterogeneous catalyst. Herein, a range of amide was efficiently N‐alkylated with various alcohols using cheap and easy to handle Ni/SiO2‐Al2O3.

Solvent-free esteraminolysis was studied under microwave or conventional heating either in the absence of base or induced by KOtBu with or without a phase transfer agent. The specific microwave effects were shown to be dependent on the conditions and discussed in terms of relative polarities of ground and transition states.

The present invention concerns a process for producing a polyarylene sulfide of high whiteness from an alkali metal sulfide and a dihalogenated aromatic compound, wherein a reaction product obtained by reacting alkali metal sulfide (M²₂S) and at least one ingredient (M¹X) selected from the group consisting of alkali metal halide and alkaline earth metal halide under the presence of water and polar solvent and separating by solid-liquid separation are brought into contact with a dihalogenated aromatic compound.
