    Hydrophobic α(1→4)glucopyranose polymers with enhanced degradation properties are described. Between the α(1→4)glucopyranose polymeric portion and the hydrophobic portion exists a linker portion having a chemistry that facilitates degradation of the polymer. Diester and carbonate ester linker chemistries are exemplified. Biodegradable matrices can be formed from these polymers, and the matrices can be used for the preparation of implantable and injectable medical devices wherein the matrix is capable of degrading in vivo at an increased rate. Matrices including and capable of releasing a bioactive agent in vivo are also described.

    This invention presents two series of novel hair fixing compositions, the first comprising copolymers of acrylates, N-substituted acrylamides and acrylic acid; and the second comprising copolymers of vinyl acetate or propionate, vinyl esters of α-branched carboxylic acids, and alkyl maleates. Such materials, when neutralized with NaOH, KOH, or mixtures of these bases with certain long chain amines, exhibit an enhanced tolerance of non-halogenated hydrocarbons and are particularly useful.

    Terpolymers of styrene, mono-iso-butyl maleate and mono-2-(n-butoxy)ethyl maleate wherein the ratio of styrene units to maleate units is in the range of about 1:1 to about 1.6:1 and the ratio of mono-iso-butyl maleate units to mono-2-(n-butoxy)ethyl maleate is in the range of about 3:2 to about 1:3. The terpolymers are useful as alkali soluble binders for photoresist compositions.
